Master Sergeant Albert “Al” George Junkert, Corpus Christi, Texas

Master Sergeant Albert George “Al” Junkert

Birth: Aug. 16, 1899
Illinois, USA

Death: Jul. 11, 1985
Jacinto City
Harris County
Texas, USA

Father: Henry M. Junkers (also spelled Junkert) born in Germany in April 1874. He emigrated in 1888. He died on 1 February 1906 in Galesville, Piatt Country, Illinois. Buried in the Mackey Cemetery.

Mother: Wilhelmina “Minnie” C. Junkers (also spelled Junkert) born in Illinois in 5 Oct. 1875. Died in 1971 Galesville, Piatt County, Illinois.  Buried in Mackey Cemetery.

Al Junkert was my best childhood friend’s uncle. Etta Louise (Johnson) Wilson, and me visited Al every summer for a week. He had no family except for Etta’s Mother, Dorothy Jean Williams Johnson. He didn’t have any children of his own, so he loved for us to come visit him. We were spoiled by him. He was a such a good-hearted man.

Wife: Etta Louise Junkert (my friend, Etta was named after her paternal aunt) Al and Etta had no children. Daughter of George L. Williams and M.T. Hawkins.

Resided: Illinois, Colorado, Bexar County, Texas, and Corpus Christi, Texas (in 1960’s).

Al was a proud U.S. Army veteran from World War I and a Patriotic American.

He drove us to the movies, and gave us spending money to buy whatever we wanted. We planted flowers. We learned how to wash clothes with one of the old ringer type wash tubs, and hung the clothes out on the line to dry. Al let us pick all the figs and fruit that we wanted to eat off his trees. Al lived in Corpus Christi, TX and Etta lived at 1706 Cheston Drive, and I lived at 1709 Cheston Drive, in Jacinto City, Harris County, Texas 77029.

He drove all the way to Jacinto City to pick us up, and brought us back. Al was retired from the U.S. Army Air Corps. He lived just a few miles from the beach. We loved it. He drove us to the beach and let us stay as long as we wanted to. We all played cards and games together. For a week out of the year…we were treated like little princesses. He made us feel special! Etta’s Dad had died when she was only 4, Al was his brother-in-law.

Poor Al died of skin cancer. He was truly loved and he made a real difference in our lives. Al donated his body to science, so that they could use his body to help find a cure for cancer.
